Still Alive

yeah, I don't really have the time to put up anything, but I thought I'd let those of you who might see this that I'm still alive.  Whether that's good or bad news to you I don't know, but now you know.

Wow, back in the ol' US of A.  I definitely miss Japan, but it's also good to be back.  Getting back into the swing of things, experiencing reverse culture shock, re-getting to know people - you know, normal moving halfway around the globe things.

I'll try to get a real post up at some point, but I'm on a friend's computer (thanks Peyton) since all we've got is dial-up right now.  Later guys,

-David

Two Weeks

Time just keeps flying right along.  Our time in Japan has been cut in half since my last post, and a lot has happened.  In today's fast-paced society, hardly anybody will read a huge amount of text, and would much rather look at pictures, so I'll use some for this post.  Click on any picture for a larger view.

Field Retreat (Japan FWB missionaries), Jan 25-29.

Three days were spent skiing/snowboarding, for those who wanted to go.

Evan, Daniel and me:

Just me:

The scenery from up there was amazing:

Here's us again:

A couple of other random shots from the retreat...

Then there was SLEW (Spiritual Life Emphasis Week) at CAJ (Christian Academy in Japan).  It was a lot of fun, again.  I only took a few pictures, and since they're not that exciting I won't bother boring you.  I know the guy who leads worship sometimes for chapel on campus, and he asked me to play bass one day!  It was lots of fun.  Friday night Evan, Ethan (worship guy), Tim and I went to Shibuya.  That I do have pictures of.

The busiest intersection in the world, and on the other side is the busiest Starbucks in the world, where, unfortunately they don't let you take pictures.

Tim took this for me in the Shibuya train station:

Evan, waiting for the train home:

Saturday night at CAJ was a concert by Carolyn Arends, who actually was the speaker during SLEW.

Well, that's plenty for now.  Probably more than enough, but maybe somebody will be interested.  And hey, give me some feedback.  Thumbs up, thumbs down, it doesn't matter.  I'd just like to know what you thought.

Later,

-David

One Month

Just one.  That’s all the time left we have in Japan.  As of February 21st, I will cease to be in this unique, fascinating country.

Yeah, that’s right.  After 2 ½ years.  Wow.  What a journey it’s been.  It’s not quite over, but Thursday we’re joining all of the Japan missionaries on a retreat in Fukagawa, through Monday.  The same day, Elizabeth and I will fly back to Tokyo with the missionaries who live there, for SLEW.  That’s Spiritual Life Emphasis Week, at CAJ (Christian Academy in Japan).  I got to go last year, and this year Elizabeth gets to go.  It’s a mix between getting some school done, hanging out with the other homeschool students who are all invited for SLEW, meeting CAJ students, hanging out with ones we already know…and fun, of course.

Sometime during the week we’re down there, all of the boxes (that we’re packing now) have to be shipped, setting them on their way to Nashville.  It’s much cheaper (and easier!) to send them that way, rather than taking them with us on the plane.  So during those last 2 ½ weeks, we’ll be living out of a suitcase, plus a little bit, with checked baggage that we’re taking with us.

After all the goodbyes (which will be no minor ordeal), we’ll be on a plane before we know it.  That plane will be headed for (drum roll please)…Hawaii!  Yes!!  That means we’ll be going from this:

to this:

in roughly eight hour’s time.  We’ll have about five days to get baked, before setting out for Nashville.  And after two and a half years, we’ll be back at our house in Tennessee.

It’ll be good to be back.  Really good.  Don’t get me wrong, Japan has been an adventure that I don’t regret, and a lot of positive has come out of it.  But it’ll be nice to be back home.  Back where people speak English, back to where I can go places and not get stared at (for being a foreigner anyway!), and back to my home church.  Wow.  Has it really been two and a half years?  I suppose it has.  I thank God for what he’s done in that time.  It’s been a blessing, in many different ways.

     Signing off,

-David

Creecher Invasion

That'd be our extended family, the Creeches.  My dad's younger sister's family to be exact.  They've been wanting to come and visit for a long time, but you know how circumstances can wreak havoc on plans and desires.  Anyway, they made it in Wednesday night.  Thursday was a park day - quite fun.

Big, bad cousins.  Elizabeth, Jake, and Noah were absent, however...

Deborah, my 15-year old cousin, and me...

Deborah, on top of things...

Daniel, with a nice pose...

Me, flying.  The sled broke, and I have a nice battle scar on my face...

That was yesterday.  Today, Deborah and I hung out downtown.  Here's us at Odori park...

It was fun.

Oh yeah, Happy New Year!!

Merry Christmas

Yeah yeah, I know, it's a little late...but as of right now it's still Christmas in most of the world!

We had our Christmas concert/party/event on the 23rd, at the Nopporo Community Center.  It went well, I thought.  Several people came that we know, and a few new people.  It was a nice mix of party (games and such), concert, and Christmas message.  I was quite busy, and didn't get to take any pictures, but my mom snapped some for me - here's the band:

my dad, on the piano as usual.

Aunt Debbie, Mr. Tokiwa (on the drums...he's there I promise), and Uncle Nathan. (doing Go Tell it on the Mountain, and turning the audience into a Gospel choir).

...and Daniel and me.

Please pray for the people who came and heard the real story of Christmas, quite possibly for the first time, that they will never forget what they heard on the night of December 23rd, 2006.  I pray we'll see them in heaven someday.

That's all for now...thanks for visiting!
